Prussia Cove
A very misty start made us lazy, but by the time we headed out the sun was doing its best to break through - this far South though it was still t-shirt weather, wonderful.
We got the full range of moods the sea can offer today. The Cove itself was relatively flat. Further East the surfers were paddling out at Kenneggy Sand as we wandered past on the coastal path. Later in the day at Lamorna Cove we watched waves crash dozens of feet high along the cliffs. Spectacular.
I first visited Lamorna Cove to climb those cliffs nearly 30 years ago, at the time I simply couldn't imagine anywhere more idyllic. The wanderings of time and place have broadened my horizons a fair bit in the intervening years, but it's still a place of almost mystical charm. It's a blessing and a curse that it's so very very far from anywhere!
Penzance was, in the way of many a coastal village, both wonderful and depressed. Stunning architecture* next to crass commercialism. We passed 20ft iron anchors, 17th century smugglers inns and dry docks, but there was also an air of the unloved about a lot of the town centre. Perhaps a Sunday out of season wasn't the best day to come, but then again, perhaps it was.
*Couldn't resist the Egyptian House. Grade 1 listed and owned by the wonderful Landmark Trust, if you ever fancy a fantabulous holiday home give them a look.
