The river runs wild

It seems our holiday cottage is right in the middle of a national news event. The area of Northumberland we're staying in is flooded and the river by us has burst its banks. Took this picture on a very rainy, windswept walk earlier this afternoon.

Nearby farms and golf courses are completely submerged and the roads are only accessible by four wheel drives. Lucky we brought the Monster Truck but even that is quite scary as it drives through mini lakes that were once roads!

Staying in tonight all cosy with a bottle of wine (again) , some steaks and a DVD. Can hear the wind howling outside and the fire is lit. Autumn has officially landed.
