Global Warming
On average I probably run to the beach and back 3 times a week, yet no 2 days have ever been the same. The seasons and weather dictate much about the conditions I will face and the sights I will see.
Today there were some autumn colours in the trees, patchy blue skies and a cold south easterly wind that was whipping up some waves in the bay. As I approach the beach I always wonder if there will be something unusual to see. Like the time there was a 35 foot Minke Whale washed up dead in front of me or the baby seal lost in the shallow surf. There again there are those still winter days when the call of the Curlews on the water's edge fills the air or the sea is like a mirror reflecting the sunrise or other wonderful colours in the sky.
It all seemed very ordinary today, but there again when you looked more closely, the beach was different. The spume created by the movement of the sea was much whiter than normal and the patterns it had created different from usual. Reminded me a bit of melting polar ice caps being broken up by global warming and drifting southwards. May the evidence has reached Carradale!
