Beating Retreat

It was another reasonably early rise this morning to continue with the preparations for the duck raise. Connecting water and electricity to the marquee, getting the BBQs fired up, sorting out the children's games and checking out the river for the racing ducks.

After the torrential rain on Thursday, quite a lot of debris had to be removed from the sides of the river as it might impinge the free flow of the ducks. Most of it was branches from trees and could be cleared relatively easily. However, after all the rain the river was chest high in places, testing the upper limits of the waders!

The race went well (apologies to family and friends who sponsored ducks but none of yours won anything!) the BBQ and games were great and lots of money was raised for the church. All in all it was a great day and plenty of satisfaction from seeing what a small community can achieve.

The day was rounded off by a performance of the Kintyre Schools Pipe Band who performed in the village as part of their fund raising. It was great to see the large number of people who turned out to support them and to hear some wonderful pipe music. It really is quite staggering how much musical talent there is in Kintyre. Its also very encouraging to see so many children involved in such worthwhile activity on a Saturday evening. Oh if it was only the same everywhere!

As they played their final tune, the sun was setting on a very memorable day here in Carradale!
