Mayflower Line
Joining Manningtree with Harwich, the line was opened in 1854 by the Eastern Union Railway (EUR) which soon merged with Eastern Counties Railway (ECR) to form the Great Eastern Railway (GER).
Only when I did some research did I realise that the field on the right of this picture used to have a spur line bringing munitions to a War Department facility in Copperas Wood. Further down the line, between Bradfield and Wrabness there was a quite extensive sidings and an occasional stop called Primrose Halt, used only by Admiralty employees.
All this is now gone, although looking at satellite photos of the area, I can just see where the tracks would have been. Nature is slowly turning it back to what it was before.
