Psycho
Some of you may remember 'The Persuaders' on the telly in the early 1970s. It was in fact the 40th anniversary of it's first screening just a few days ago. It was an action-packed drama which starred the soon to be James Bond and ex-Saint, Roger Moore and one of the all-time greats of Hollywood, Tony Curtis.
I avidly watched every episode and loved the theme music which was written by the late John Barry (also famous for his Bond music). But what does all this have to do with this picture?
Well it could be Sir Roger's renowned eyebrows, which he himself joked that he had three acting expressions: left eyebrow raised, right eyebrow raised and eyebrows crossed! But no, the connection is with Mr Curtis, who died nearly a year ago. In 1951, he married Janet Leigh, with whom he fathered Jamie Lee Curtis.
Janet Leigh was cast by Alfred Hitchcock to play Marion Crane who is murdered in the shower. The scene is an iconic one in cinema history. A scene which used 77 camera angles and over 50 edits in just over 3 minutes of film.
This drawing (by me) is of Janet Leigh's right eye after she has fallen in the shower.
Having just written this, I am left asking myself isn't it rather strange, drawing the eye of a 'murdered' woman? But of course she wasn't and she no doubt jumped up and had a coffee 10 seconds after this shot. Besides, her murder took nearly 6 days to shoot
