Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

2017 Thursday -- The Cemetery

Today we drove away from the coast here at the Estero Bay toward San Luis Obispo and then onto the 101 Freeway just beyond Pismo Beach to Arroyo Grande to stop at the Walmart to buy a bag of dry dog food.

Mr. Fun has been wanting to stop at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery because a race car driver that he used to know was buried there years ago after dying of complications due to diabetes. For a time, when he was younger, Ronnie Bucknam lived in Corona and went to high school there. A number of years later, Mr. Fun & I both went to Corona High School. So when we were young marrieds and going to sport car races and would see Ronnie racing, our mutual connection to Corona endeared him to us. Standing there at the grave marker was a sober moment. Looking across a very worn, desperately in need of water, graveyard was also somber.

We made several stops in Arroyo Grande-- Walmart, Trader Joe's, PetCo, the library, and then into Old Town to visit one antique store, where I have stopped several months ago to look for a nightstand for Mr. Fun's side of our bed, but we did not find one today either.

Then it was good to head back to our little place on the coast in Cayucos because we had left the three pups there in their crates. We knew that it would be warmer inland where we needed to shop and there is never a guarantee that we get to park the car in shade, so we left them at the house. Once we got back, we took the pups for a walk on the beach at south Cayucos. Because Max had been fairly sick a couple days back, we tried to take a short walk to not wear him out.

While walking my phone rang; it was our daughter at our SoCal home. She was home from work and wanting to know if there would be an "Open House" this weekend (our home is now "For Sale"). So that started a whole new stack of plates spinning. I'll write more in the next few days about this.

That's it for this Thursday,
