Today's Destination
Cragside, near Rothbury, Northumberland.
It was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectric power, generated from streams that run down the steep hillside on which it stands.
We didn't set out with the intention of visiting, but the gallery we were aiming for was closed - permanently. This was just along the road.
By the time we'd climbed up the hill to the lakes and ponds at the top and down to the bottom to see the pump house and the archimedes screw, we felt we deserved a pot of tea and a scone. It wasn't as good as yesterday's but it was very welcome all the same.
