Calgary to Kelowna

Today was our second longest day of driving but it was worth it. The scenery on the drive was stunning, again, and the roads are pretty empty which make it very easy to drive (we've been sharing the driving but with hubby doing the main bulk). Also, thank goodness for Michael Morpurgo audio books which keep us all entertained.

We wanted to make sure that we were somewhere nice for our daughter's birthday as it's a fairly significant one for her this year. We've treated ourselves to a lovely apartment with shared swimming pools and very close to the lake for water activities. First impressions are great despite the smoke in the air. It's been so hot that BC (British Columbia) is suffering from wild forest fires and although Kelowna hasn't been hit the fires are big enough and close enough for us to see the smoke. We'll keep checking the news to make sure we're safe and not in danger of being evacuated.

So this is a blip of my daughter which is the last day she'll be in single digits. We had a lovely conversation at bedtime this evening as I recalled this day 10 years ago. She was absolutely entranced as she listened to her journey into the world.
