Music for a Busy City

One of the free events in this year's Manchester International Festival is Music for a Busy City - six original pieces of music being played in six locations. My favourite was Matthew Herbert's "the machines our buildings used to hear - being listened-to in this shot at the Great Northern Warehouse. Another good one was Anna Meredith's Chorale for Lifts in the corridor linked Selfridges and M&S and Canal Street by Philip Venables.

A further, very moving, event was in a vacant shop in Oldham Street where Manchester's Street Poem has writing by homeless people all around its walls, telling some powerful stories. Not to be missed.
