"Tess" 086X

During last week's visit to the Isle of Man, we discovered quite a lot about my Dad's four years on the Isle of Man during World War 2. Roy regularly went fishing in Garwick Bay with his Uncle Joe in the boat “Tess” shown in this photograph (in which Dad is the one in the middle) and the extra (in which he is on the left.) He kept a detailed log of fish caught over the four years, which is now in the Manx Archives. During our visit last week, the Archivist - Wendy Thirkettle - was very helpful to us, locating a copy of the log, which contains a detailed record of the species and weights of fish caught throughout a four year period.  Using this, Roy estimates that he and Joe caught about 7,900 fish over the 4 years, weighing a total of about 6,800lbs.
