Butterflies filled the air

Back home now so starting to back blip, it may take a while :)
Back Blip 1.

We woke to the news that Adele had cancelled her concert tonight because of damaged vocal cords so we spent the first part of the morning working out how to get our money back and seeing if there was anything else on we could go to but everywhere was sold out so plans for tonight put on hold.
After breakfast we drove up to Dunstable downs and met up with our friends Terri and Rich at 9 o'clock. We had a wonderful walk and catch up. We walked through some woods and ended up by a meadow filled with
ox eye daisies and other wild flowers. We walked back along the ridge admiring the fantastic views that lay in front of us. We watched a few gliders take off and glide up into the sky where the sun was trying to peak through.
After tea and more chat it was time for Terri and Rich to meet their daughter and for us to meet Fairweathergirl. Luckily we recognised each other and we were soon chatting away and off for another walk. The temperature had risen and so had the butterflies. Several ringlets and meadow browns and marbled whites. I also saw a chalk carpet moth, red admiral, painted lady and a small tortoise shell. The painted lady stayed still so we could get some close up shots but the others in this part of the walk were quite flighty.
It was warming up and we were thrilled when we came across some knapweed that was covered in marbled whites all busy feeding. We tiptoed across and they did nt bat a wing and we were surprised at how many other bugs were on the plant including a big green caterpillar and a ladybird. It was so nice to be able to take our time and snap away. Butterflies surrounded us, it was a job to know where to look. We continues to another meadow filled with daisies, stunning and then there were poppies in another field and orchids too.
There was a walk along the meadows edge and it was just us, we'd left the kite flyers  and picnickers infront of the cafe and the dog walkers had disappeared. I thought there would be more people around seeing as it was national meadows day but quite pleased that there was nt.
Even more butterflies now and the sound of grasshoppers filled the air. A Green veined white, small tortoise shell, skippers a plenty and, while Fairweathergirl was snapping a black and yellow long horned beetle, I saw a comma on a very busy bramble (blackberry) bush.
Fairweathergirl left to do some jobs, although I'm not sure she did them in the end ;) We stayed and had some lunch watching all the happy faces playing in the sunshine, adults as well as kids.Saw some great little butterfly kites so bought a few to fly with the Brownies.
Then we left to get to our hotel, feeling pretty tired so just had dinner and watched Dr Who :)
