Wonderful Wasdale

Despite a day in the highest mountains of England its this lakeshore scene that took today's choice, there's a reason this is so often voted our nations favourite view. Yewbarrow looms the Scafells glower and Gable is simply glorious.

A far longer and tougher day than expected today, being the Assessor is classically an easy gig, but one group gave us a scare, and there comes a point where as the most experienced person on the hill a duty of care takes place. Besides, they're all great kids and you want to know they're ok.
I finally located them at 16.30 on the flanks of Scafell, still heading up despite leaving Eskdale before 09.00, one of them had been repeatedly sick, but seems to be recovering. Good as they're a four and a team needs to be a four for the whole expedition or they all fail.

By the time I found them I'd been up and down Broad Stand* twice, the length of Scafell and its ridges and spent a l-o-n-g time staring through binoculars.
In extras is a collection of lovely little plants, something the kids are photographing for their project and a shot of climbers on Scafell Crag - you might need to look very closely, it's a very very big crag.

*I must have advised 20people that Broad Stand is not a path, that it's not a route for tennis shoes or gym pumps. Me and another instructor only had to rescue three. It's infamous for a reason, yet people don't seem to care. Proof that most people get away with it most of the time. Until they don't.
