Diary of an Edinburgher

Norway Day Eight

Well, there were no pancakes this morning at breakfast, but they made up for it with fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries! Yum.

What a marvellous day we had. This city is wonderful! SO much to do and see. We got a tram to Vigeland Sculpture Park, and it was so impressive. Hundreds of sculptures by the same artist - Gustav Vigeland. Wow!

Back to town and a ferry across to the Kon Tiki Museum although there were many other museums in the area. I remember reading about Thor Heyerdahl when I was younger - what an adventurer he was! They had both the Kon Tiki raft and the one used for the Ra expedition.

We sat down at the waterfront and ate our lunch, and I worked up enough energy to walk along to the amazing, not-to-be-missed Opera House. We managed to walk about half way up the sloping roof, but it was just too hot for such exertions.

Back to the hotel for a wee rest and a Nespresso. After being lured out with the promise of a beer, we went for an evening stroll later, only to discover that I must have left my cotton jumper at the restaurant last night. Duh! We walked back there but no luck. Which meant that I was too cold in just my shirt to sit around and have a beer. Back to the room for another coffee.

While we were waiting for the tram this morning, a wee old lady next to me suddenly crashed to the ground. She really bumped her head. We tried to help, but fortunately a young man rushed in, perhaps with medical knowledge, and talked to her in Norwegian, asking her what day it was, where she was etc. He told us that she was OK, she answered all the questions. We got her standing up, but then her legs buckled and she keeled over good and proper. The ambulance seemed to take ages, but the young man crouched by her and stroked her and made her giggle now and again.

We were both very upset, but had a laugh afterwards - if anyone had asked us what day it was, or where we were, we wouldn't have been able to answer correctly!

What a super day in Oslo!

Early start tomorrow. The long-awaited Flåm Railway!

PS 16,033 steps! (11.2km). A world record for me. No wonder I'm puggled.
