Tynwald Day

5 July, which was Midsummer Day centuries ago, is a significant day in the Isle of Man.  The members of the Manx Parliament - the House of Keys - gather on Tynwald Hill in St John's to hear the Acts of Parliament passed in the past year read out to the Manx People.  A large crowd of people, including some colourful characters gathered in glorious sunshine. Today, these included a group of women dressed as Handmaids from the Margaret Atwood novel, protesting against something or other.

Then we had lunch at Peel, which has an impressive castle and an attractive harbour.

Later we visited Garwick Bay, scene of my Dad's fishing exploits in the 1940s.
