Lee Hill Road
We were going to watch the finish on Flagstaff today. I knew that wristbands were needed to get onto Flagstaff, and i intentionally looks to find out if there was a limit to what they were handing out. There was no limit mentioned anywhere and the website said they would be available on race day. Perfect. ...until we get a call from a friend at 9am that they were out and weren't letting any more people up the climb. After much annoyed venting, we decided to pack up the car and go watch the Lee Hill road climb. We weren't the only ones, it was packed. Had a great time with J and H, who hadn't been to watch a pro race before.
I get too excited when the riders come by to get any worthy shots. I hold down the button on the camera on rapid burst, point my hand in the general direction and hope for the best. This shot contains local boy and US national champ Timmy Duggan (who got to ride through his hometown today) and my favorite cyclist Jens Voigt.
That night, watching the Flagstaff climb on tv, we were supremely disappointed to see that the roads were completely empty. There were a bunch of people up by the finish line, but the entire climb beforehand was devoid of people. It looks bad when you see that big of a climb and no fans out to support the race. Way to go Boulder.
