Party in sa Penya
The day started painfully for Nate with 2 vaccinations (he was weighed - 14lb 8oz!!). What a way to celebrate 2 months of life!
This afternoon we went into Sa Penya (the Roma Gypsy area) for Amparo's 6th birthday party. I can't tell you what an honour it was to be there!! We were the only non-Roma, and clearly being watched by quite a few Roma we don't yet know...! But the kids all loved Nate & were touching his face and talking to him (the boys included), and as soon as Amparo saw Asha she screamed Asha's name & ran to hug her...they spent almost the entire party hand in hand. I chatted to a lovely woman who has a baby 1 week older than Nate, Jose...
I've added a couple of extra pics in...the breeze block wall that D is stood near is the wall that was built last year to make sure no Roma reentered their evicted homes (the homes are still empty)...& Carol (Amparo's Mom) is holding the piñata at the top of the steps in front of her home - crazy to think how different her home is from ours...and yet we live 5 minutes walk from each other.
Today I'm grateful for;
1) Nate's jabs being done...I've not been looking forward to this appointment.
2) Being inside Sa Penya once again. What a huge privilege to be invited into the heart of a closed community.
3) Amparo's welcome of Asha. Love their friendship...a vision of unity for the future.
