Katharon Plateau
The forecast for was rain and we woke up with it hammering against the bedroom window with a thunderstorm/lightning. By the time we collected our friends from Malia it had stopped and the roads were dry.
We'd planned to do Car Tour 6 of the Sunflower book of Car Tours & Walks of Eastern Crete which included Kritsa, The Katharon Plateau and Agios Nikolaos. On a walk around the charming village of Kritsa, a downpour saw us dive into a cafe for coffee. By the time we'd finished you'd never know it had been raining and we enjoyed a walk around the shops.
From Kritsa we drove up and up to The Katharon Plateau where the views of the mountains and sea were breathtaking. We saw some birds of prey flying the thermals and I pulled over and put my long zoom lens on to take a few photo's. My favourite is the blipfoto. I'm reliably informed it's a Griffon Vulture. Gyps Fulvus!
We ended up in Agios Nikoloaos in a restaurant around the old harbour with the sun well out, watching the locals kids fishing (see extra).
This evening we watched a lovely sunset from our balcony.
