"Awwww.......just a little bit lower"
Today was a cold, wet day, with intermittent periods of fine weather. We woke up to snow low on the hills surrounding us, and you could certainly feel it in the air temperature. We've had 189ml of rain so far this month - the farm is swamped with water and mud. It was sleeting at 8.30am when I took the boys to school, and again when we were feeding out mid morning. During milking this afternoon it hailed - the poor cows huddled together to try and keep warm.
During one of our fine patches today, I headed out with the camera. I was going to take a photo of the reflections in one of the 'lakes' that the rain had created in our paddocks, however, on the way back home, I stopped by the calves paddock and took some photos of them, who were out enjoying the wee bit of sun that we received today.
These two made me giggle - calf 15 looks like she is whispering something into calf 9s ear, and I love the look that calf 9 has on her face - almost like she is rather enjoying what 15 is telling her. In fact, calf 15 was licking the face of calf 9, something I haven't seen before. I stood there for about 10 to 15 minutes taking photo's and watching what was happening, and the licking never stopped. I was rather amused! They are obviously very good friends.
