Hydro

A new Superlative Walk today, around New Mills in Derbyshire. This view, of the River Goyt, shows on the right part of Torrs Hydro, the UK's first community owned hydro-electric scheme, which generates 63 kW of electricity using "Archie" - a 2.4 metre diameter steel trough screw turbine. Obviously.

After overcoming the excitement of that visit, we enjoyed great views of the Peak District and, beside the Peak Forest canal, on the right, Swizzles Sweets Factory, one of the longest-running sweet factories in the world. The day's final superlative was Rock and Torr Vale Mills, England's longest continuous mill manufacturing site, built in 1790 and closed in 2000.

We later obeyed signs in the Visitor Centre prohibiting nefarious activity and then were disappointed by the lack of content in this van.
