A two Wainwright day
A lovely walk today and despite it being a bank holiday and starting at Tarn Hows we somehow managed to avoid any crowds and saw few people. We started by ascending Black Fell to claim the first Wainwright of the day. It was mainly overcast but the views from the top were splendid and the clouds soon cleared giving an unexpectedly sunny period. We then headed down past the disused quarries at Hodge Close which were well worth the small detour as the picture in extras shows. Headed up past the old reservoirs and claimed a second Wainwright as we summited Holme Fell. We completed circular walk with a climb up past the waterfalls back to Tarn Hows. There was not a lot of water coming down but the falls looked lovely with all the spring greens - see extras. After 10 miles and about 2000 feet of ascent we enjoyed a deserved ice cream.
