A New Lighthouse

Every time I go to Maine...I try to bag a new light. This is Dyse Head Light in a small village called Castine. It was an OK visit. It is public...yet private. Somebody lives in the keepers house, but the public can visit. Can you imagine renting a place like this...always having tourists traipse across your front lawn?

This was actually our second new light of the day. My Dad and I took a hike this morning to another one. Squirrel Point Light. The hike was a little nasty. If you weren't stepping on rocks...you were tripping on tree roots. The lighthouse and the 2 other buildings were in a sad state of repair. Very rundown, and I'm afraid it would take a huge sum of money to fix it up. The picture...along with many others...are on my Flickr page.

We mostly spent the day in the car, and visiting a few junk antique shops. Where do they find all this crap stuff?

The most interesting stop of the day was a place called Windsor Chairmakers...outside of Camden, Maine. Shaker furniture. We walked into the workshop, and saw the chairmaker at work. Think Norm Abrahms from This Old House. He was making 6 chairs to go along with the 6 bar stools that were mostly done. Lovely work.

We left the workshop, and went into the gallery. It was inside a nice old New England house. I saw the chair first. The one like the guy was making. 695 dollars. How do you say "WHOA"...when your jaw is dropping. I put 6-7 furniture shots on the Flickr page...from least expensive to the most. 198 dollars for a stool...up to 12,553 dollars for a rolltop desk. Beautiful stuff.

We are spending the night in Bar Harbor, Maine. Hopefully into Acadia National Park tomorrow.
