Looking out from the inside

With nice weather forecast I opted to do the Grasmere/Rydal circuit but visiting some places I had not been before. First up I wandered around White Moss Common which I had not done before. It is a great place for elevated views of Rydal Water but early morning I was looking into the sun which made getting a good exposure challenging. I then took the coffin route to Rydal but added in a small diversion up Dunney Beck and then tracking the contours parallel to the coffin route which I rejoined further along. The highlight of my day was my first visit to Rydal caves. I imagine it gets very busy in the height of summer there but today it was quiet and for a time I had it all to myself. The view looking in from the outside and the view across Rydal Water from the coffin route are in extras.

There was plenty of wildlife around today: deer, heron, Mr & Mrs Egyptian Goose and the four goslings, Mrs Mallard and the six incredibly tiny ducklings and I am sure what was an Osprey, possibly from Esthwaite Water, as it is the only bird of prey I know with a white head.
