Day 1 - Let's GO
After many weeks of wonderful warm dry weather and poor Angie running around like crazy organising quotes and financing, and having a battalion of visitors and poor Flash collapsing around her ankles, the day has arrived when the roofers start on putting a new roof over our heads.
We have known we had a problem on the roof ever since we bought the property - the valuer had made us aware of it. When it was roofed back in the 70's the then owner who wasn't strapped for cash, cut corners and let the roof be done by illegal workers and taking lots of short cuts. The tiles themselves are actually OK and could be reused but the construction below and the insulation is inadequate or faulty, in particular the plastic/tar sheeting and the lack of counter battens.
Whole matter was brought to a head when we started to look at putting PV panels on the roof in 2015/6. Quickly became clear it made no sense to put the panels on a "time-bomb" roof which would soon have to be redone. Since then other matters have intervened but the idea came up again as the threat of interest rates climbing has become a current topic.
So loads of form filling, emails and phone calls over the last months and Angie juggling all the balls in the air. She does work for a bank, so does have the connections - that's my excuse for sitting back and being quite happy with the weekly pocket money she hands out.
So the roofers arrived at the crack of dawn. Put a ladder up, lifted a tile and then said they might be back later in the week if it stopped snowing!
