Gontia

The Celtic goddess Gontia was the tutelary deity of what is now known as the River Günz. The Günz is the longest stream system in Bavaria (92km), springing from two arms (East & West Günz) in the alps and merging below Ottobeuren to flow to the town of Günzburg and then into the Danube.

The Blip shows the West Günz just south of Ottobeuren. River level very high thanks to the large amount of rain over the weekend. The entire area on this bank of the river along this part of our Schickling dog walk route is kept by the Günztal conservationists I mentioned on Saturday. The meadows rented to farmers but no use of fertilizers, haymaking not allowed until very late after birds young have flown the nest.

For the record, this bit from Wiki is rather interesting in the current debate on EU.

The Celts were people in Iron Age and Medieval Europe who spoke Celtic languages and had cultural similarities, although the relationship between ethnic, linguistic and cultural factors in the Celtic world remains uncertain and controversial. The exact geographic spread of the ancient Celts is also disputed; in particular, the ways in which the Iron Age inhabitants of Great Britain and Ireland should be regarded as Celts has become a subject of controversy.
