Galeria de Reina Sofia
So today's adventure was a trip to the Galeria de Reina Sofia, a really cool modern art gallery in the centre of Madrid with Jess and Cameron.
We rocked up to the gallery and discovered that Saturday afternoon is free entry to the gallery which was an added bonus. Even if it had been full price, it still would've been worth every penny...or cent I should say as we're using Euros now! Walking around the gallery you get a huge variety of art. Some was very bizarre, like some budgies in a cage and then a room full of sand and stones. But in general there was a cool mix of canvases, sculptures, video installations and a load of other things. In pretty much every room some gallery attendants kept coming and telling us off, either because we didn't see any signs telling us we couldn't take pictures or because we were standing to close to an exhibit-this was a good vocab learning exercise though as we now know how to say 'if you can't turn the flash off on your camera, please do not take photos' and 'excuse me, you are too close to the exhibit' in spanish.
The surprises continued when we found ourselves on the very top floor of one of the gallery buildings and stumbled across an amazing roof terrace type thing. We spend a good hour or so just chilling at the top, equipped with refreshments from the bar up there and in some comfy seats at the side. It was gorgeous being up there with the sun shining in from some square shaped gaps in the roof and other people up there enjoying the atmosphere too. Definitely a good find!
Right, better run and watch Doctor. Who now. Hasta luego! x
