ERASMUS!!
Although I didn't get an proper pictures whilst there, this was on the way to last night's entertainment which was a Botellon organised for the Erasmus students.
"Botellón" literally means "big bottle" in Spanish. A group of people, generally young, that basically get together in a park or public space to laugh, have fun and drink.
So around 100-200 Erasmus students turned up and then we went to a place called Temple of Dubod, just behind the Plaza de Espana which is basically a small park. It was full of local teenagers who had had the same idea and was like watching 14 year old chavs drinking in parks back in the UK, except these seem a lot more extreme as the kids bring along food, plastic cups, ice trays and other random snacks. These also involved some kids dancing to music, others throwing leaves at each other and tying someone to a tree.
Ours group was a lot less organised and we spent a long time walking around shouting 'Erasmus?!' at people and generally scaring several groups. But it was interesting watching the lively atmosphere of these things and just generally being outside in a nice place at night. Although, we met a man who looked exactly like Basshunter, danced with a strange Turkish man and had banter with a lot of french students. So all in all, an interesting experience.
