Dotted border
The odd moth is turning up at my garden trap, but cold nights and a full moon have meant both numbers and variety is reduced. This dotted border is a classic early spring species. It took some spotting against the wooden shed door, but I wondered why it hadn't gone to more trouble to align its marking with the grain of the wood. Perhaps it needs a few hundred more years of selection pressure to fine tune its camouflage. It was a lovely day, bringing out brimstones, peacocks and one comma butterfly.
