The trappings of a beetle hunter

I'm getting a bit of a production line now, making different designs of aerial interception (vane) traps for catching saproxylic invertebrates (those living in damaged, decaying and dead trees), especially beetles. This is all preparation for more surveying at Dancersend Nature Reserve this spring and summer. On the right is the cheapest and easiest to make - by cutting and folding sections of a plastic bottle - but it is a bit delicate. The others involve attaching  collecting bottles to different sizes of plastic funnel, then cutting acetate sheet to make transparent vanes that will intercept any beetles flying out of damaged areas and rot holes in old trees. I may be over-engineering these, but at least they should last a few seasons!
