I booked in half a day for Welcome duties at Longshaw today, so I could spend an hour of so this afternoon looking for some of the nest boxes I will be monitoring later in the year. I was pleased that I managed to find all the ones allocated to me in this area. The icing on the cake will be if any of our target species - Pied Flycatcher and Redstart - take up residence in a few months time. On my way down, I finally saw my first local Curlew of the year, having heard them call a few times.
