Trow Gill then Ingleborough

Final day out with FWG - so a new area for her logbook - also a chance to try and put ourselves in the best bit of the forecast.....

It was glorious driving into the Dales (in fact, technically I drove out of the Dales, in & out of the Lakes and back into the Dales) and a bit of a treat to be honest. I don't often come to the Dales apart from Yorkshire 3 Peaks and climbing, and each time I do I remember how lovely it is.
Today I'd planned a walk that would have some wow, to cushion some full on conditions and hard work. At Trow Gill it was 0°C but stunning. We then took a convoluted route, involving some very technical contour interpretation to Gaping Gill, by which time we were in cloud and seriously cold. A good march up Ingleborough got us warm - and we emerged onto the summit Plateau to very strong winds but stunning glimpsed views as the clouds skated through.
More difficult contours, a really long open moor crossing and streams that weren't streams - but FWG nailed it.
There's a point in instructing whether it's one day at a crag, a trek, or a long term project, where (hopefully) you can step back, pause, and see the client mastering the skills - I can honestly say it's the most rewarding part of my 'job'. Today was a tough day made to look easy, and it takes some skill to pull that off. Especially wearing three jackets.

Today's was inspired by the gritstone slabs that make up the final steep path onto Ingleborough's Plateau.
There's no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.
