Aunty Nan

Today we said our final farewells to Aunty Nan. The minister was the same chap as we had for dad's funeral and was more a celebration of her life.

Afterwards, we went to a hotel nearby and lots of old photos were being passed around. This one is of Nan with her first husband Jim - they got a special licence to get married in the war years, but sadly Jim was killed in Hasselt in Belgium. One thing I'm glad about is that when we lived in Belgium, we took Aunty Nan to his war grave and Alan and I used to visit from time to time. Today is the first time I've seen a photo of him though - didn't they make a handsome couple? I loved seeing the old photos and the packets they were kept in, see my extras.

Some years later, Nan met Rick and they married, but when my cousin Pete was 18 months old, Rick died of cancer. She worked hard to bring Pete up on her own, with the help of my mum and dad and other family members, but never married again.

She was like the matriarch of our family and will be sadly missed. RIP Nan xx

In other news today, Violet has started crawling. Just a little, but now she's worked it out, I'm sure there'll be no stopping her!
