Paralympic torch
2years 308days
Hello Blipworld!! Fun first day home today! We started the day with what will be for Katie the last Olympic holiday club toddler session. She made two medals, one for her and then one which she proudly presented to me. She then came and joined me in the bigger childrens group where I was helping and did the sports activities and crafts.
We then headed to the swimming pool to meet friends for a swim, and she had a wonderful time. Her and Jack adore each other! We got to see other friends that we havent seen in ages too, so that was a bonus. We all went for lunch after swimming. It was really exciting at the leisure centre as there was a paralympic event being held for local disabled people, both children and adults which was culminating with the arrival of the paralympic flame in our town.
We took the children outside to where everything was going to be happening. They were fascinated by the balloons. Katie was really interested when the police escort arrived and stood watching it all. The torch was being carried in a lantern this time, and she watched all of that - in fact she is on local television, sat on the floor watching the towncrier announce it all and looking at the torch bearer. I was interviewed by the tv presenter and appeared rather embarassingly in the segment too. But I had hold of Katie, wearing her medal and holding Pride the Lion. A special way to add to our treasured memories and souvenirs of the whole collective of Olympic experiences for her.
We went into town for a coffee, and after we had said goodbye to our friends, the torch was making its way towards a special service in the town, so she got to see it one more time and cheered the torchbearer and clapped the policemen. Something rather special for her really.
PS I've backblipped the holiday now!
