Birthday treat

Last week we finally confessed to Katie that we had arrange a birthday treat for her. Katie, her friends Lydia and Ellie, their mum and I had booked tickets to Mary Poppins in Newcastle and to stay in a hotel overnight.

We had an amazing day!!! We arrived to Newcastle shortly after lunchtime and walked to the Discovery Museum. We stopped for about twenty minutes for Lydia and Katie to play in giant piles of autumn leaves, beautiful golden leaves. The Discovery museum was, in some ways, better than the science museum. The interactive areas certainly were. They really enjoyed the Science Maze activities- particularly the light painting and shadow wall. There were free code breaking crafts and Katie & Lydi had a brilliant time in PlayTyne, a River Tyne based water play room.

We then went to do some of the Snow Dog hunt. Katie loves doing these trails and this was no exception. They liked the one outside the theatre, they liked the soft and fluffy one, they liked the Elvis one but largely because it was outside Lush. It was Katie's first experience of lush and she totally loved it. Came out absolutely covered in glitter!

After checking into the hotel we had a light tea and a spot of quiet time before the evenings excitement.

Mary Poppins was phenomenal. I don't think it tops The Lion King for me, but it wasn't far off. It was really wonderful. Supercali was a highlight.
As was the tap of Step in Time. And Mary Poppins flying from the stage to the upper circle was amazing. Absolutely brilliant evening
