Today's the day ....................... for a surreal adventure

The big blockbuster exhibition on at present at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh is called - Surreal Encounters: Collecting the Marvellous.

I have to admit that the surreal is not really my cup of tea - and so I was there to see something else.  But apparently, there is on show an example of the most famous sofa in the history of comfortable seating, the Salvador Dali/Edward James-editioned plush pink pouffe, shaped like Mae West’s lips, for Schiaparelli’s couture showroom.

What did catch my eye though was the special children's playground outside in the grounds of the gallery, next to the Charles Jencks' Landform sculpture.  It is entitled Surreal Adventures and children can play on the slides, have a picnic on a wobbly bench or sit on a concrete chesterfield.  Great fun.

Oh - and that building in the background, where you can get a surreal ice-cream (no kidding - because I did!) really is sloping at that weird angle ...................
