Sublime

I've just got in - to a hotel in Dalkeith, not home - from a wonderful performance of Monteverdi's Vespers in St Mary's Haddington, where I took this photo as we were leaving, to capture the full length of the building. The performance, by the Dunedin Consort and His Majesty's Sagbutts and Cornetts, was electrifying; we were sitting at the front and felt swept up from the off. It was a perfect evening, one that ended over a drink with old friends who turned out to be working on the Lammermuir Festival, whose opening concert this was.

And I think this was the first time I've ever seen a cornett ...
