Quick Blip
Full on at work today, so a quick late night blip.
A fascinating conversation with Pete Gilbert on Sunday about art and painting. He showed us some of his early commercial stuff - pre CAD, photoshop, indeed any use of computers to do anything but number crunch. The precision of what he could do by hand was extraordinary.
But later in his career he learnt to free himself up, and I just love his impressionistic painting. I am going to save up and go to the Hampshire Open Studios at the beginning of the week rather than the end, next year.
This book is wonderful (and far cheaper than his watercolours), and produced in conjunction with his photographer buddy Hugh Lohan. Together they explored the same stretch of short river in all seasons, and in all weathers, one with a camera, the other with paper and pastels. The results are great.
