Corfe Castle In The Evening Sunlight

It's been another glorious day but I didn't go out walking until the end of the day when all the tourists were pouring away from the Isle of Purbeck. I felt sorry for them as they sat in stand still traffic, whilst I sailed through in the opposite direction! My destination was Corfe Castle - a beautiful old ruin, owned by the National Trust. I only got there for the last 40 minutes of opening but that was 40 minutes more than I was expecting! I always enjoy clambering through the ruins and admiring the view - especially when the light is as lovely as it was this evening!

My main goal was to climb one of the two hills beside Corfe Castle - the one I've never climbed before because I've not been able to find the access until today! It's down a tiny road, under a bridge and then  steep, overgrown steps through the bushes - a well camouflaged route! Anyway, I scrabbled through and up - not another soul in sight! The view was lovely, but the sunlight was very bright, sending the castle into deep shadow, making it almost impossible to photograph. As many of you know, I love shooting directly into the sun but today the glare was horrendous, so I really struggled to get a good shot. It was fun trying though! :) So my blip is not 'contre jour' but making the most of the long shadows cast by the evening sun. A man with a camera and a lad with his camera phone joined me for the last little while but they were the only people to be seen, other than two figures in the distance on the opposite hill (he with camera and she with phone!) The same two figures as you can just about make out in this shot!
