Wasteland

Now I work closer to the edge of the CBD I pass large areas of earthquake wasteland. When I say large this area is 3 blocks continuous. In the scheme of Christchurch that's on the smaller side.

It's other worldly. Wilson's parking lease some parts while other parts are fenced off and there is nothing except for gravel, puddles, the odd pair of Parys (Paradise Ducks), Black Backed Gulls, and abandoned batteries.

Areas like this are repeated all around the edge of the CBD, but it's nothing like the east of the city with almost entire suburbs red zoned and empty. Somehow we just absorb it into our daily landscape. In another 5 years or so it will probably be a mass of tilt slab commercial buildings.

You can see the CBD in the distance. If you work out the tilt slab commercial buildings in the middle, my office is 5 minutes walk beyond them.

Before the earthquakes this area was mostly 1 or 2 story buildings, lots of car yards, commercial businesses, and the North Canterbury Fish and Game Council.

Anyway, I often walk around that way at lunch time and wonder how on earth you photograph it.
