Diary of an Edinburgher

Walkies? Pleeeease?

Poor wee Archie today spent a lot of time sitting around, looking hopeful. After a dry early morning walk, the drizzle came, and stayed until the afternoon. We did have another dry walk before our visitor came about 3pm. And now JR has taken him round the block, not up the Hill (which involves driving) as intended, due to several (small) glasses of wine being consumed during the afternoon.

We haven't seen M for many years - not since we left NZ (17 years ago now). And we haven't actually been in touch. Her son is doing a doctorate here. But she found our phone number and rang yesterday, only to be greeted with a (somewhat grumpily suspicious) 'He-e-l-l-oh.' This is because we get SO many cold calls - it was amazing that I even got up and answered the phone. So glad I did!

We caught up over a few hours and a glass or two of wine. M asked if we knew a certain chap. Well, we didn't really know him, but we do have a painting of his! Hanging in the kitchen!! She was delighted to have her photo taken beside his painting, done in 1987, because she is now living with him, and it's all quite new and exciting. Bet she can't wait to Skype him tonight.

This time next month I will have a new knee!
