The Apple Family

It’s a familiar landmark in Southampton’s West Quay shopping centre, and one that I have visited regularly over the years.  Not the fruit stall, you understand, but the store beneath the sign behind it.
When I first became introduced to computers in everyday life and embarked on the path that led to the total computerisation of newspaper and magazine production it was with an Apple machine.  One which by today’s standards would seem a museum piece.
But nevertheless that was my introduction to computer technology, although the Apple offering today extends far beyond computers alone — right from the iMac desktop computer to the MacBook laptop, iPod, iTouch, iPad, iPhone  and iWatch, with various variations on the theme with each one.
I have to admit to being an Apple fan and have used Apple computers right from that first day of being introduced to it at the newspaper. My memory was stirred not long ago when I spotted one of those first box-like Apple personal computers exhibited in a computer shop in Watford, then not long ago saw one in an exhbition at, all places, an umbrella manufacturer in Cherbourg where it had been used in design work.
But there was one element of the Apple family I did not know — until my wife generously offered to but it as a birthday present.

Hence, my visit to the Apple Store today.  It isn’t my birthday today so I will leave you guessing as to which member of the Apple family has now joined us.  That might well be a Blipfoto on another day!
