Buffalo taster
The burger grill at the monthly Farmers’ Market at Romsey is always one of the most popular features among the stalls representing the best of Hampshire produced fare.
Not just any burger grill — these are burgers from buffalo meat produced from a farm not far distant in the Test Valley.
Broughton Buffalo is sought out locally, not just at the Farmers’ Market, but it is here that you can be assured a welcome introduction to the buffalo farm near Stockbridge.
They proudly claim the buffalo are reared on grass and clover pastures, with no cereal based feeds, and the meat is butchered at the farm and sold fresh to pubs and restaurants in the area, as well as Hampshire Farmers’ Markets.
You may savour the flavour of a good many things as you walk round the market — from cheeses, to home baked break, tomatoes and garlic to a whole collection of other farm produce.
But those buffalo burgers sizzling on the grill. Well, that’s something else!
