Chance encounter!

I was driving along a narrow farm road with high walls on each side when I was suddenly aware of this bird walking towards me so I stopped and it flew onto the wall. I got my camera out of its bag fully expecting the bird to fly away but it sat there and let me take a couple of shots then flew off.

When I first saw it on the ground I thought it was a partridge but looking at the photo I now wonder if it isn't a young hen pheasant.
