Anchor and Plough

Last full day in Orkney before we head for home tomorrow and once again blessed with beautiful weather.

I decided I would like to have another look at the deserted old farm where some of my ancestors lived and look at the surrounding area. One of the extras shows the neighbouring farm with its wind turbine and cattle breeds that were introduced much more recently- I wondered what they would have thought about life today.

I felt the blip was appropriate as it combined farming and fishing and it is almost certain that to survive on such a small farm 4 or 5 generations ago they would have had to do both.

The other extra shows a wide angle view from our cottage looking out on Pierowall bay - It is particularly delightful in the evening sunshine. We have loved this week on Westray and our 2 day trip to Papa Westray and thanks to some very helpful locals I now know so much more about my ancestors the " Dead Rendalls ".
