Wood Thrush
Our friend Arn drove us this morning to Old Lyme in Connecticut where his friend Peter joined us to bird together. Arn is a member of our bird club (the Hampshire Bird Club in Amherst), and he is a real expert, especially in finding birds by their songs; he lived in Old Lyme for many years and knows the area well. We happened on this wood thrush at the entrance to Hartman Park, and it simply posed for me while we observed him from the car. I was most interested in capturing a worm-eating warbler, which I had not managed before; the best I could do is the first extra, which at least clearly shows its striped head--its only distinctive feature (not a great image but it will do for now at least).
Earlier we had seen a small snapping turtle laying its eggs at the side of a road (the second extra).
