Day 4: Durham to Thirsk

Lovely day cycling through beautiful rural countryside.We left Durham rather late after a long leisurely breakfast of pancakes, toast and coffee. With the revised route we cycled through lush countryside on an almost traffic free road, accompanied by SparseRunner for the first 30miles. The architecture has changed though with red stones making their appearance. We have went through little villages, whivh could be straight out of an Agatha Christie novel affluent- looking, with a feel of old money! In Hornby, we stopped at a pub serving since the 18th century, where despite being too late for their lunch, we were served with an enormous portion of duck pate and fresh bread I am learning a lot about England and its history. We arrived in Thirsk in good time, and checked in at the White Horse Hotel just outside,
