Day 5:Thirsk to Doncaster via York.

Today was one of our longest days. We left in very misty, damp weather, towards York - we thought. We wanted to use the Route 65, the Transpenine cycle route and therefore had to ignore the "instructions " of the Garmin and trust our judgment. We realuse wr were going the wrong way when we were faced with the steep climb to the North Yorkshire Moor. We turned back and soon found the turning to the Route 65 that we had missed. From then on it was a lovely ride through very quiet roads and through lovely little villages. We passed Newburgh Priory - a beautiful stately home that had once been a priory until the Dissolution (according to Ferelith's account). Then Cayke Castle on the top of a hill - the last climb of the day, after that it was all more or less flat. We arrived in York in time for lunch but could not linger too long. We following Route 65 to Selby, a cycle track away from the traffic of the A19. Then went on to Doncaster, this time following the main road. Tomorrow is another big day.
