African Art
In Africa very little is wasted! The Local People pick up seeds and seed shells and decorate it to sell it at their makeshift markets, sometimes next to the road, or on street corners.
The big round decorations are made from bulbs, like gem-squash, which fell from trees in the South of Zambia. They pick it up, leave it to dry out, cut a neat round hole in the bottom, as seen on the ball, second from left, in front row. They clean the inside out, burn patterns on the shell, replace the piece cut out for cleaning, varnish the ball, and sell it.
The lovely brown ones in front are also retrieved from under the trees, polished and sold at the markets.
The very neatly manufactured grass mat on the table was made by them as well!
