Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Welcome home... Sort of...

Well, I had the most awful night - sore eyeballs, sore cheek bones, sore throat, hot sweats, streaming eyes and nose, and tingling all over (this wasn't unpleasant, just unnerving) I may have dozed in between coughing fits for an hour or so, but it was a long night. In fact, so unwell did I still feel in the morning that I did not make it to breakfast!! JR brought me back a yoghurt and a croissant, and raved about the toasted cinnamon bagels and fresh fruit.

I watched Sunday morning TV and got up and dressed slowly while JR was enjoying her breakfast. We checked the room carefully, as you do, and set off on the return journey about 11am, only to have to stop and go back to collect a jumper that JR had left. Just as well we hadn't gone far. We left Dumfries in blue skies and 17°, but as we neared MidLothian, we came through hail on the ground, and it was 9°! However, the sun is out again, I'm beginning to come right after my coffee and breakfast croissant.

We arrived back home after midday, and were greeted half heartedly by Archie, who then popped back on the sofa and resumed his snooze on Joanne's leg. Huh! We get more of a welcome after a five minute visit to the shops.

J had taken him up the Hill in the morning with Bailey, so maybe he was too exhausted to bother to welcome his mums properly.

The Kiwis have departed to an airport hotel in readiness for a crack-of-dawn flight to Croatia tomorrow.

The chap is coming tomorrow to lift the floorboards in the back bedroom to check the joists. Let's hope it's good news, and there's not too much damage.
