world in a grain of sand

We split up today, into serious walkers and dilettantes. I was in the latter group. While the others chugged along by the reservoir, and through canyons, or so they reported, we wandered up a lovely valley of waterfalls and sat with our books on the bank of the river.
The clever serious walkers turned up with provisions they had foraged en route. OK, from a youth hostel they passed - but pretty smart of them. While the serious ones walked up the waterfall valley, the other 3 went to a tea shop. All happy!
I managed another short walk from the house to get this picture, I love the old canal bridges, and beautiful combination of form and function.
The evening involved whisky tasting ( I still don't like it, it's burny water) and a literary quiz - a remarkably good combination.
